Next-Gen Cyber Defense Technology for Multi-Factor Authentication

As the cyber threat landscape evolves, organizations need to evolve with it and migrate to a next-generation zero-trust network security model. However, most MFA solutions in use today are inconvenient, as they shift more of the burden of cybersecurity onto the end user. And it should be noted that MFA is still not bulletproof, and can still be attacked and breached. But what if there was an MFA technology that worked seamlessly in the background and allowed a user to verify their identity without having to reveal their “secret”—whether that be a password, PIN, one-time-password, or biometric samples?

1. Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP), where one party (prover) possessing a sensitive piece of information can prove their knowledge or possession of that information to another party (verifier) without disclosing it, other than the fact that they have it.
2. A private key recovery process, which ensures no sensitive or authenticating information is stored on the user side of things and allows ZKX to tie them to a specific device to enforce policies.
3. Identity attestation or session management, which enables users to authenticate a network without interacting with an MFA system or third-party utility.

ZKX's suite has found applications across a wide range of industries, but one of its primary markets is the military and Department of Defense (DoD). The company helped the US Army meet their objectives at the end of 2022 when ZKX successfully conducted a set of tests called the distributed zero trust to showcase how the ZKX MFA set of technologies could enable superior security for them in Disconnected, intermittent, limited bandwidth (DIL) environments.

In the test, ZKX provided zero-trust security connections to the tactical team conducting operations in the field and to the forward operating base. The company ran authentication for specific users and devices with just 5kb of data over a traditional satellite communication link.
